Join us for an insightful webinar with Dr. Bjånes, whose pioneering work focuses on advancing human brain-machine interfaces. His research explores motor control, somatosensory feedback through cortical stimulation, and decoding internal speech, with the goal of restoring dexterous hand function and sensation for individuals with spinal cord injuries.
Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) offer a powerful therapeutic advantage by directly linking neural activity to movement, sensation, and communication, opening new pathways for restoring function in patients with paralysis and neurological disease. However, clinical translation faces critical barriers, including integrating sensory feedback, long term reliability, and challenges in scaling from laboratory demonstrations to real-world use. My talk will highlight our work addressing some of these barriers by developing BCIs that are reproducible across individuals, stable over years of use, and engineered for the longevity required to truly impact patient care.
